Here is a concert version of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II's MUSIC IN THE AIR. This was produced by the New Amsterdam Theatre Company at Town Hall in New York on April 21 and 22, 1985. The original orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett were used. I believe this recording was made on April 21.
John Reardon (Bruno Mahler), Patrice Munsel (Frieda Hatzfeld), Rebecca Luker (Sieglinde Lessing), Christopher Wells (Karl Reder), Edmund Lyndeck (Ernst Weber), Louis Beachner (Dr. Walther Lessing), Kurt Peterson (Cornelius), Muriel Costa-Greenspon (Herr Direktor Lilli Kirschner), I.M. Hobson (Uppmann), Mia Dillon (Hulde), E. G. Marshall (Narrator/Burgomaster). Conducted by Michael Battistelli.
My understanding is that this is an archival recording of the concert, made by the New Amsterdam Theatre Company, recorded by microphones set up onstage specifically for that purpose. The volume level varies widely depending on how close a performer was to the (probably) two or three microphones onstage.
