When the Academy of Music celebrates its birthday, it helps ensure its own
future at the same time it celebrates the durable music of the past. The dressy
audience that joined the Academy's 131st Anniversary Concert celebration
Saturday heard the Philadelphia Orchestra with soloists Viktoria Mullova and
Frederica von Stade. Riccardo Muti conducted - only his second time in these
concerts - and led a program drawn from the music of four countries: Russia,
Italy, Spain and France.
