Here at last is my opportunity to present something from Egypt. An impressive 1994 Aida from Luxor. This upload from a VHS tape is far better quality than the 1987 Luxor Temple Aida with Chiara and Cecchele uploaded in message #59996. > > This 1994 Aida was presented by Cairo Opera House (as part of its 125th anniversary celebrations) on the other side of the Nile in the spectacular setting of the Temple of Hatshepsut on a specially built Verona-style stage. The army built a bridge and a new road specially to get the audience to and from the performance. > > The international cast is led by 'Diva' star Whilhelmenia Fernandez who is gorgeous both visually and vocally in the title role and is undoubtedly the main reason to see this performance. Giuseppe Giacomini is as good (or as bad) as usual.
