While thanking Paolo for this wonderful upload, I must say that this is not the first opera produced and telecast by RAI, this being "Il barbiere di Siviglia" transmitted on April 23rd 1954, at least according to Gualerzi/Roscioni, "50 anni di opera lirica alla RAI".

It was the first opera produced by Italian television, March 3, 1956 was recorded the soundtrack and in a single day, March 13, the television recording with just two cameras, then transmitted by RAI. > > **Maria Callas top of his greatness and his intelligence, who asked her when she sang "La fanciulla del West", he replied that for that work was already Gigliola Frazzoni.** > > The video and audio are good, considering it's a very old movie.
